You deserve this: 5 ways to unwind this Mother’s Day

May 5, 2021

All of us has been stretched thin ever since this pandemic began. But mothers across the world carry a heavier burden despite working together with their partners when it comes to dividing domestic work. From figuring out how to keep their children safe while adjusting to work-from-home life, to budgeting finances properly and cutting down unnecessary expenses — it’s always the moms who are proactively keeping these agendas on track.

A membership company called

‍ recently polled more than 1,000 moms around the US and found that:

- 68% are having a hard time working full time inside their homes while managing childcare at the same time

- 46% feel grateful, but still frequently feel exhausted and anxious at the same time

Do you feel the same way, too? If your answer is yes, then you deserve to treat yourself this weekend!

Yep, we know you’ll be celebrating your big day with your family, but it will be also beneficial to you if you could spend some time on yourself.

We’ve listed a couple of things you can do to de-stress and focus on your well-being:

1. Enjoy a spa treatment inside your home

If you can’t find the time to literally go out of your house, creating an at-home spa can still make you feel refreshed and pampered. It doesn’t have to be costly, so you don’t have to worry about your budget.

Set the mood in your tub by putting a few drops of your favorite essential oil and lighting up some scented candles. Prepare a bluetooth speaker and load the playlist that can actually help you relax.

While you’re at it, put a sheet or clay mask on your face to moisturize and detoxify your skin.

2. Nourish your hair with masks, too

Juggling a lot of tasks the whole day leaves us no choice but to shorten our shower time from Monday to Friday. So before you actually start chilling in your tub this weekend, apply a hair mask you bought from the supermarket or the DIY one that you have learned creating from TikTok or Instagram.

If you have a colored hair and are looking for a quick DIY recipe, hair care expert

shares this recipe:

- Whisk 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon of thick conditioner, 1 ounce of castor oil, 1 ripe avocado, and 1 ounce of full milk

- Refrigerate this mixture overnight and apply to your hair afterwards

3. Spend the afternoon outdoors

As vaccines continue to roll out globally, spending some hours of your day outside is no longer as scary a thought as it was last year. Doing so actually helps you lower stress hormone levels and improve your mood, especially if you’ve been feeling more stressed and anxious in the past few weeks.

It’s up to you if you’ll take your family with you or not, but going to a park or a nearby beach and getting to eat your favorite comfort food or reading your favorite novel is totally ideal. (Remember to follow COVID-19 protocols, please.)

4. Take a paint and sip class

You don’t have to be an experienced artist to paint, because it’s an art form where you can freely express yourself without judgement. Plus, you’ll get to sip fine tasting wine. A double win, right?

Find a virtual or limited in-person paint-and-sip class to relax, have fun, and have your own unique creation to remember the day.

5. Host a tea party with your closest friends

Making time to bond and share stories with your friends is definitely a need these days, especially since you’re all apart from each other. Prepare your lawn, set up a chair and small table, and create your favorite cup of tea so you could still feel the essence of having a tea party even if you might not be together personally.

You may plan the things you’d talk about in your group chat days before the party if you don’t want any unnecessary dead air during the call, or be as spontaneous as you are if you’ve always been like that with them even before the pandemic.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to do these things, but it can definitely make you feel better before you face the new week ahead.
